Terms and Conditions


Please read these terms and conditions before using the opticworld.co.uk website. By using the website you agree to comply with and are bound by these terms and conditions. If you do not agree with all of these terms and conditions, you must not place your order with OpticWorld.


1. Goods orders

1. OpticWorld reserves the right to reject Orders on any grounds. If it does not accept an Order then an email will be sent to the customer explaining reasons for this rejection, otherwise it will dispatch an official acceptance of the Order to you by email. A binding contract will exist between OpticWorld and you as soon as we have accepted your Order.
2. Customers may place orders either through the website ordering system, or by telephoning OpticWorld.
3. If you want to change your Order, please contact us as soon as you can. If goods have not yet been made up for your initial Order, then we will endeavour to meet your changed requirements but cannot guarantee to be able to do so if products have been customised specifically for you.
4. Submission of an Order constitutes an offer to purchase Goods from OpticWorld. No initial confirmation of receipt of the Order by OpticWorld, whether verbally or by e-mail, will represent an acceptance of that Order. Accompanied by a valid authority to debit the price of the Goods from your debit card or credit card account.


Dispatch times


As we have such an extensive supply of designer frames and sunglasses, the majority of orders will come to us directly from the worldwide stockists as we cannot keep all of these models in stock at one time. Dispatch times for designer frames are shown below:

Accessories and Contact Lenses are usually dispatched in 1-2 working days. Priorities on these can be made on request.

2. Your obligations (inc. Prescription Orders) & Registration

Spectacle Orders

1. When you place an Order, you must give OpticWorld full details of your prescription, including notes, and a copy of your original prescription, if OpticWorld asks you for it, and the contact details of your optician if needed. These details can be entered into the MY Account section of the site and changed from here at any time.
2. By placing an Order, you confirm that you are aged at least 16, not registered blind or partially sighted and are ordering only for yourself. You also confirm that you have a written prescription given to you by a registered ophthalmic medical practitioner or registered optometrist. If you are under 70 years of age, you must also have had a sight test carried out by a registered professional in the last twenty-four months. If you are 70 or over, this must be within the last twelve months.
3. If you send OpticWorld your spectacles for copying, they must be made to the same prescription as you supplied when you originally placed the Order.
4. You must provide OpticWorld with details of any problems you have experienced when wearing glasses in the past.
5. By placing an Order, you confirm that you are an individual consumer and that the Goods are solely for your own personal use and are not for resale in whole or in part.
6. By placing an Order you also confirm that you do not know any reason why the Goods might be unsuitable for you.
7. If OpticWorld so requests then you must prove that you are eligible to buy the Goods.
8. No Order can be accepted from anybody who is not the authorised holder of the credit or debit card used for the Order.

         Contact Lens Orders

1. You are over 18 years of age
2. Are able legally enter into a binding contract
3. You have completed our registration procedure
4. You have previously worn contact lenses
5. You have had contact lenses fitted by a qualified Optician
6. You have not experienced any problems from the use of your contact lenses
7. You must ensure that the details you provide during the registration process on our site are correct and complete. You are also obliged immediately to inform us of any changes to the details you have provided to us during the registration process by updating your account through the My Account section of the website. Failure appropriately to update your details will be a breach of the contract between you and us, and OpticWorld cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage you suffer as a result of your failure to provide us with correct and up-to-date information.

2. Pricing

1. All prices are set out in Pounds Sterling.
2. Postage and packaging charges for every item are clearly stated prior to purchase.
3. The price you pay for your Goods is the price stated on the Site.
4. OpticWorld makes every effort to make sure our prices and other information online are accurate. However, we are unable to guarantee that items are priced correctly. In the event of mispriced or changed-price Goods, we will contact you so that you can pay the correct price or cancel the Order.


3. Fulfilment (incl. Prescription Orders)

1. OpticWorld may ask you for a new prescription if, for example, your retest date has elapsed or the prescription you have supplied is more than twelve months old.
2. OpticWorld makes every effort to make sure your Goods match the Site or descriptions. However, small variations can occur to parts, owing to manufacturers’ changes.
3. After you place an order with us and make appropriate payment, you will receive an e-mail confirming your order and notifying you that payment for your order has been taken. Please note that in taking payment at this stage, OpticWorld is not accepting your offer, and a contract is not at that stage formed between you and OpticWorld.
4. OpticWorld may prior to accepting any Order require that you supply a copy of your original prescription prepared by a registered optician in the United Kingdom.
5. When placing an order with us you must have in your possession a valid contact lens prescription which is not more than 12 months old. In order to place an order with us you must accurately enter information that is included in your contact lens prescription.
6. OpticWorld will accept orders supplying up to 1 years supply of Contact Lenses however any responsibility for following regular contact lens checkups after the supply date of lenses are solely down to you and no responsibility for following your checkups lies with OpticWorld.
7. When we have received your order and payment for your order we will attempt to verify your contact lenses prescription with the prescribing Optician. By placing an order with us you provide us with your consent to contact your Optician to verify the particulars of your contact lens prescription.
8. If we are able to verify your contact lens prescription, we will dispatch your order to the address that you have provided to us. If we are unable to verify your prescription within 21 days, we will refuse your order and will communicate that refusal to you by email. In the event of such refusal, any payment taken from you will be refunded.
9. Dispatch of your order will signify acceptance by OpticWorld of your order, and at that point only will a legally binding contract be concluded between you and OpticWorld.
10. OpticWorld will make every effort to fulfil Orders promptly and effectively. The availability of Goods can sometimes be out of our hands, though. If Goods are unavailable, OpticWorld will offer you alternatives or your money back. If you do not respond to such offer within five business days OpticWorld has the right to provide replacement Goods of similar quality or refund your money.
11. OpticWorld has the right to verify or discuss your spectacle prescription with your registered professional. OpticWorld has absolute discretion on whether to accept or reject an Order .
12. OpticWorld may require that you secure your Pupillary Distance measurement from your optician or supply us with an existing pair of spectacles which has been professional dispensed to measure your Puillary Distance.
13. If you do not supply your pupillary distance measurement in accordance with the last preceding provision then OpticWorld may use an average pupillary distance set by our supervising opticians. At their discretion, our optician may ask you to have your pupillary distance measured.
14. OpticWorld reserves the right to refuse your Order if the delivery country of delivery is not one approved by OpticWorld, if it is for single-vision spectacle lenses with a spherical value of more than +/-8 dioptres or a cylindrical value of more than +/-4 dioptres. We may refuse your Order, too, if it is for bifocal or varifocal lenses with a distance spherical value of over +/-8 dioptres, a cylindrical value of more than +/-4 dioptres, or if the power addition between the distance and near elements is under +0.75 or over +3.50 dioptres.
15. Each separate supply of products shall constitute a separate contract between you and us subject to these terms. The fact that OpticWorld has previously accepted an order placed by you is not an indication that we will continue to accept orders in the future, and OpticWorld has no obligation to accept such future orders.

16. OpticWorld can only supply contact lenses that are a direct match to the lenses that you are currently being prescribed. OpticWorld may cancel your order or request for you to have a contact lens checkup to the lens type you have chosen prior to accepting your contact lens order.


4. Delivery

1. Delivery of Goods is effected when the Goods are consigned by us into the Royal Mail (or other delivery system).
2. Delivery will be effected no later than 28 days after we have accepted your Order or, if a face-to-face consultation is required, 28 days after such consultation with a OpticWorld optician, if this is necessary.
3. Delivery will be made to the “Delivery Address” specified when you placed your order. This may or may not be the same as your credit card or debit card billing address.


5. Inspection

1. When you receive Goods from us you should inspect them immediately and carefully. It is your responsibility to contact us if anything is missing, or if they appear not to match the description or seem damaged or defective. If so, do not use them. You must also notify us if you have difficulty using the Goods.
2. It is your responsibility to check the written information about the Goods and to contact us if the Goods do not appear to match the written information and/or your prescription.
3. Should your Goods prove defective when delivered, at our discretion we will repair or replace them or offer a refund provided you return them in the same condition as you received them and with the packaging intact.
4. If Goods appear faulty, OpticWorld will pay the costs of returning them to us. Note, though, that you are responsible for these costs until they are received by OpticWorld.
5. If you think that the Goods appear faulty you should not wear them or use them.

6. As all prescriptions are checked prior to dispatch, we may require you to have your lenses checked by an independant opticians to verfiy the accuracy of your lenses to the prescription that has been entered. To ascertain if an issue with the lenses is found or if this is an issue with the prescription itself.


6. Transfer of risk

1. If you cancel your Order risk remains with you until Goods dispatched by OpticWorld have been received back by OpticWorld in good condition.
2. If you want to cancel an Order and/or reject the Goods, then the risk of loss of the Goods remains with you until the Goods have been received back by OpticWorld.


7. Refund Guarantee

1. After you have cancelled your order in writing and returned the Goods to us, complete with all included items and packaging, OpticWorld shall, provided the Goods are in unused and the same condition as you received them, reimburse you within 28 days of the date we receive the Goods back from you. This refund will be for the price you paid for the spectacle frames but not postage and packing or other costs of returning the Goods to us. You will be reimbursed by the same method you used to pay for your Goods.
2. Where OpticWorld has supplied Goods other than single vision uncoated lenses, then we will offer to supply alternate Goods with similar type of lenses at a discount on the lenses in the alternate Goods of 50% from our normal catalogue price at the time of Order
3. To claim your refund, your Goods must be in as-new condition; we must have received payment in full and you must have met all your obligations under these Terms and Conditions.
4. You are obliged to tell us immediately by e-mail, fax or post about any manufacturing defects you notice within 3 days of delivery. At our absolute discretion, we will repair or replace the Goods or refund your money.
Note that we are unable to do this if we have not received the defective Goods from you or if the problem is due to misuse.
5. In the case of a manufacturing defect, OpticWorld will pay the return postage, packing and delivery of your Goods for repair or replacement. Reasonable postage costs of returning the defective Goods will also be paid for, subject to the request being made in writing.
6. Prescription Lens Return and Exchange Policy
All prescription lenses are considered special orders, and are therefore non-refundable. OpticWorld will however refund the full cost of the frames alone, provided they are in as-new condition. When returning orders which are custom made with single vision lenses included, a refund will consist of the frame price, less the typical costs of the lenses made. For all lens types this is £25 plus any extra price paid for lens upgrades requested.
We understand there may be times you want to change the frame even though the prescription lenses are perfect. If, within 14 days of receipt of product, you wish to exchange a frame that we have made prescription lenses for, you will be charged or credited the difference of the new frame cost. A lens credit of 50% of the original lens cost will be applied to the cost of any new lenses ordered. In addition, new shipping charges will incur.
7. Prescription Guarantee
We guarantee 100% accuracy on all prescriptions or they will be remade at no charge. All prescription glasses, prior to leaving OpticWorld, pass a quality control check. All prescription lenses that leave OpticWorld are checked by a fully qualified member of staff who will assure they are made to your prescription.
8. Frame Choice
To save you time and money please ensure you have tried on the frame or glasses and you can confirm they are exactly what you want. We do not offer a try at home service for designer frames or designer glasses.

9. Manufacturers Warranty

All products, including prescription frames and sunglasses are covered by a full 12 month warranty.

8. Liability

1. This Agreement does not exclude or limit liability for fraud, death, personal injury or other liability caused by one party's negligence.
2. OpticWorld will not be liable to you for any losses, such as contracts, insurance cover, income, goodwill or profits.
3. OpticWorld shall not be liable to you for losses however caused in relation to this Agreement, even if advised of the possibility of loss or damage.
4. OpticWorld can accept no liability for non-standard use of the Goods or if loss or damage results from inaccurate, false or misleading information provided by you.
5. Our total liability to you with regard to legal claims connected with an Order will not exceed the total sums received by us for the Order.


9. General matters

1. The headings in these Terms and Conditions are purely for convenience and do not affect the interpretation of this Agreement.
2. The Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 and any laws that supersede or amend it shall not apply to these Terms and Conditions and third parties have no right to enforce any contract.
3. Your obligations and rights under this Agreement are not sub-contractible or transferable in whole or in part.
4. These Terms and Conditions and your Order are the entire agreement between us and supersede all other agreements, promises or statements about the Order, including on the Site and sales literature. Neither party has a remedy if a term is not set out in these Terms and Conditions or in your Order, except in the case of fraudulent misrepresentation by the other party. Our representatives, staff or agents will not vary or waive these Terms and Conditions; any such changes will not be effective unless expressly agreed to by us in writing.
5. Either partys failure to assert its rights if these Terms and Conditions are breached does not mean those rights are waived.
6. Should any of these Terms and Conditions or Order be unenforceable, the others will remain in force subject to modifications that may be required to achieve their objectives.
7. English law and any relevant Order govern these Terms and Conditions. Both parties hereby agree that any disputes will be subject to jurisdiction of the English courts

10. Links and Adverts

1. The OpticWorld.co.uk website provides links to other third party websites and resources. These third party websites are not under the day to day control of OpticWorld. When you click through to these websites you leave the web pages under the control of OpticWorld. We cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any issues that you may face or any losses that you may suffer which arise from the use of third party websites that are linked to from our website or which link to our website. We advise you to read the terms and conditions and privacy policies of each website that you click through to from our site before using them.

11. Force Majeure

OpticWorld will not be liable for failing to fulfil its obligations under these Terms and Conditions because of any extraordinary event or circumstance beyond the control of each party, such as war, riot, natural disaster or strike action.


12. Notices

Any notices to OpticWorld.co.uk must be in writing, by prepaid post. Notices to you must be by prepaid post, fax or e-mail to the address in your Order. Posted notices will be deemed received two working days after posting. If e-mailed or faxed, they will be deemed received in the absence of a failure notice.
